The incumbent is responsible for interviewing patients for accurate submission every 30 days in order to obtain pertinent patient registration information such as demographic, insurance information and authorization forms in order to submit claims for health care services provided. Assisting patients in completing new or updated forms for the RPMS patient registration system. Determine eligibility of patients seeking health care, by obtaining the Certificate of Indian Blood or documentary proof of tribal membership. Identifies those patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval to determine the extent of health care for outpatient. Verifies the health care record number in the RPMS system and request charts for updating and patient visits. A photocopy of Private Insurance/Medicare insurance cards is obtained. Assists Patient Benefits Coordinator with any documents needed to enable application process for alternate resources and answers questions. Adheres to security and confidential procedures when operating equipment or while operating the computer. They are supervised by the Patient Registration Supervisor. The Lead Patient Registration Clerk primarily responsible for assisting in the management of the centralized appointment system and management for in-house specialty appointments for the Outpatient Clinics of the Winslow Indian Health Care Center. They work closely with patients, medical providers, Nursing staff, Patient Advocate/Clinical Liaison, Patient Benefit Coordinators, and Contract Health Services to ensure patients have access to necessary medical care within established WIHCC policies and guidelines. This position functions as a Staff Dental Officer, within the Winslow Indian Health Care Center Dental Program. The incumbent will be a first line treating dentist within the clinics of the Dental Program, as well as assisting the Chief, Service Unit Dental Program, in the implementation and operation of the dental program. This included preventive, educational, and corrective dental services to the approximately 30,000 Indian recipients in the Service Unit who fall within the scope of the WIHCC Dental Program.
The incumbent acts as a professional in the dental field in connection with diagnostic treatment of commonly encountered dental disease or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. Since it is impossible to provide complete dental coverage to all within the incumbentˇ¦s jurisdiction, the WIHCC priority system will be followed.
In order to provide dental services by WIHCC priority, the Dental Officer and auxiliary (ies) may be required to travel to schools where either fixed or portable equipment may be used. Where these are not available, school children may be transported to the nearest dental clinic to receive dental care. Clinical dental services will utilize approximately 80% of the dental officerˇ¦s time. The remaining 20% will be utilized for administrative/specialty duties as assigned. This position is located in the Nutrition Department of Winslow Indian Health Care Center, directly supervised by the Diabetes Program Manager. The Nutrition Department consists of a supervisory public health nutritionist, a nutritionist-dietitian (proposed), and nutrition technicians.
In 1982, Winslow IHS had 36,000 patient visits, with five physicians on staff. By 2002 the number of patient visits had doubled to 64,000, with 11 physicians on staff. The total number of staff members in 1985 was 56. Today the staff numbers over 200. WIHCC operates two outlying clinics - one in Dilkon, the other in Leupp. A mobile van was purchased and outfitted to reach out to the entire Winslow Service Area in 2001.
The Nutrition Department focuses primarily on preventing the development of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, but also provides services directed toward preventing the complications of diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. Prevention strategies include individual home-based nutrition education, community-based nutrition education, as well as school and community nutrition promotion initiatives. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, medical nutrition therapy, individual or family nutrition education, staff training and supervision, and management.
The purpose of this position is to direct, administer, manage and coordinate program planning, implementation, evaluation of community-based nutrition care, education and promotion services. The incumbent directs the provision of services and the development and implementation of innovative programs through collaboration with Navajo Nation Nutrition programs, Health Promotion, Community Health, Public Health Nursing, Clinical Diabetes and other departments and programs in order to meet the needs of Winslow Indian Health Care Center and the community.
