Public Health Nursing


WHAT IS PUBLIC HEALTH?

Public Health is keeping individuals, families and communities healthy by:
  • Preventing an illness or injury before it occurs.
  • Promoting healthy behaviors by educating about healthy choices and practices.
  • Promoting safe and healthy environment.

Public Health Nursing Services
Health Screening
  • As appropriate for all ages, including vital signs, glucose.
  • Body Mass Index Measurement.
maternal-child health
  • Prenatal/Postpartum assessment and teaching.
  • Newborn Assessment.
  • High Risk prenatal/postpartum follow-up and care.
School health
  • Health education.
  • Immunizations.
  • Hearing screening.
  • Fitness Testing.
  • Body Mass Index Measurement.
health promotion
  • Education provided in homes, schools, and community centers.
  • Chronic disease management.
disease prevention
  • Communicable disease tracking and follow-up.
  • Education on communicable disease.
  • Administering of child and adult vaccination to protect against preventable disease.
Home visits
  • Referrals for follow-up of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Health education in the home setting.
  • Assistance with medications.
  • Advocate for clients and their families for needed services.
